Maruti Suzuki WagonR scores less than Alto K10 in GNCAP rating contest - timesofindia.com

Results from the 2023’s first round of Global NCAP ‘Safer Cars for India’ campaign are in and it seems the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and WagonR have not faired well in this year’s tests. For 2023, Global NCAP has updated its crash test protocols for frontal and side protection for all tested models. The tests also measure Electronic Stability Control (ESC) management and pedestrian protection, Side impact pole protection is another assessment that is required for a top tier rating in 2023.

Unfortunately, Maruti Suzuki’s Alto K10 managed to score just two stars for adult occupant safety and zero stars for child safety protection. However, what might come as a surprise to some readers is the WagonR’s score. In comparison to the Alto K10, the WagonR has scored even lower, at one star for adult occupant protection. Moreover, the WagonR scored zero for child occupant safety protection.

Apart from the Maruti Suzuki models, the Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia were subjected to GNCAP tests as well. Both sedans are based on the same MQB A0 IN platform and have scored five-stars rating for both adult and child safety protection. This does not come as a surprise as in 2022, the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq had scored the same and are also based on the MQB platform.
What are your thoughts on the 2023 Global NCAP results for Indian cars? Is having a safety rating below an average of three, a complete deal breaker? Tell us in the comments below.
