Mahanagar Gas reduces CNG and PNG price - Economic Times

Mumbai-based Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) has reduced the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by Rs 8 per Kg and domestic piped natural gas (DPNG) by Rs 5 per standard cubic metre (SCM) in and around Mumbai, the company said today.

The reduced price of CNG will now be Rs 79 per Kg and Domestic PNG will be Rs 49 per SCM effective from midnight of 7 April, 2023.

The decision comes after the government, on Thursday, revised the pricing methodology of domestically produced natural gas to promote usage of natural gas.

"This step of government will help to increase the consumption of natural gas in domestic and transportation segment, which is an additional step towards making India cleaner and greener," MGL said in a statement adding that it is passing on the benefit of this reduction in domestic gas cost to its Domestic PNG and CNG consumers.

In the month of February, MGL had reduced CNG price by Rs 2.5 per Kg.

The company said its CNG now offers savings of about 49% and 16% as compared to petrol and diesel respectively at current price levels in Mumbai.

Also MGL’s Domestic PNG will offer around 21% savings as compared to current price of Domestic LPG, the company said.
