Wipro boss Rishad Premji warns IT workers on moonlighting, calls it cheating - India Today

Swiggy recently announced moonlighting policy for its employees. In simple words, the food delivery giant, under the new policy, lets its employees take up an alternative job besides their primary work at Swiggy. Looks like Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji is totally against the policy and calls it “cheating”.

The former Nasscom chairperson expressed his views on moonlighting policy on Twitter. He believes that the concept of a second job in addition to the regular job is “plain and simple” cheating. "There is a lot of chatter about people moonlighting in the tech industry. This is cheating - plain and simple,” Premji noted.

The moonlighting policy basically allows employees to take up a second job in addition to their primary work. Notably, most organisations in India prohibit the practice of such a policy and strictly restrict employees from taking up a second job. In fact, most companies operating in India take strict actions against employees taking up gigs even after their working hours.

Premji's statement comes after Wipro cancelled variable pay of its mid and senior-level executives for the June quarter. The company sent an email to its employees on the same. In the same email, the IT company noted that fresher and junior-level staff will get variable pay after 30 per cent cut.

The company highlighted that the variable pay cut is happening due to operating margin pressure. The email stated that the Q1 margins were lower at 15 per cent due to inefficiency in talent supply chains, project margins, and investments in talent technology and solutions.

In the same email, the IT company stated that there will be no change in the salary hike and the increment will be effective from September 1.
