As per the Linkedin post, Starlink India is looking to hire a Director of Rural Transformation and an Executive Assistant.
“In this role [Director of Rural Transformation], you will be a critical member determining Starlink’s successful adoption by local communities in India. You will be responsible for helping selected geographical areas deliver measurable and time-bound GDP and sustainable development goals through the deployment of Starlink technology,” as per the job description (JD).
While the Executive Assistant will “work closely with HR and the management team to manage all office administration, assist with event planning, and facilitate the smooth day-to-day operations and functioning of the office.”"The executive assistant position is not a chief of staff position and the Director Rural Transformation has to be technical as well. Another small step towards catalyzing and accelerating transformation starting with Rural India," Bhargava said in the social media posr.
Bhargava, who took charge of Starlink India in September this year as Country Director, had previously said the satellite communications (satcom) company will focus on 10 rural Lok Sabha for providing internet services.
"We will probably focus on 10 rural Lok Sabha constituencies for 80 per cent of the Starlink terminals shipped to India. The number of preorders from rural constituencies will be one factor that helps us select focus constituencies," he had said.
Starlink, which competes with Bharti-backed OneWeb, is expected to commence the rollout of satellite internet services from next year. OneWeb, too, is eyeing global coverage with a fleet of 648 LEO satellites and will begin services in India around May-June 2022.Earlier this month, Bhargava had said SpaceX would start discussions with Indian telcos Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea for potential collaborations to deliver high-speed satellite broadband services in India’s hardest-to-reach regions.
The Starlink India executive’s comments come at a time when OneWeb, SpaceX, Amazon and the Tata-Telesat combine are readying to enter India’s relatively nascent fast broadband-from-space segment, leveraging their respective low–earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations.
India is seen as a key emerging satellite internet market with an over $1 billion annual revenue opportunity. This is since almost 75% of rural India still does not have access to broadband as many locations are still without cellular or fibre connectivity. The LEO satellite systems are being seen as a viable alternative.
